Spring
in Pelion is a little late in coming especially in the higher altitudes.
It usually sets in in mid April and the entire May, when one can
virtually watch buds turn into blossoms and blossoms into leaves
and fruits. The mountain, now stripped of snow, dons its green outfit
and compliments the scenery with numerous flowers.
The unspoilt villages and hamlets open up to
fragrant air and light, and their inhabitants tend to their gardens
and flower beds and pots, and make preparations for the great festivities
of the Greek Easter, a time when people, locals and visitors, feast
for three days and revel in song and dance under clear blue skies
and soothing sunshine.
Late April, May, June, September and October
is the best time for holidaymakers who are keen on walking and hiking
vacations. The endless network of mule-tracks and paths is inviting
and challenging; it promises healthy exercise and pleasant walking
experiences through gorgeous countryside, and an opportunity to
have a rest at one of the lovely beaches and a quick dip in the
turquoise sea while fresh fish is being cooked on charcoal at the
nearby taverna.
